El Día de la Madre

There’s a lot of things I never thought I’d be doing.  At the top of that theoretical list is plagiarizing the work of Justin Bieber to create a song our boys could sing to my bride the morning for mother’s day — yes, today is El Día de la Madre aquí en Costa Rica. With me on guitar for the four mighty chords involved (hey, it worked for AC/DC) this morning’s serenade went off without a hitch. Enjoy — and sing along if you feel inspired.

[Verse 1]

I wish we could stop talking so honestly

You know we try but we say whatever we’re thinking

And the nudity yeah we could use a little more modesty

But you made us so we figure you can take it unblinking

I know we’ve interrupted you maybe once or twice

By once or twice we mean maybe a couple thousand times

So let us, oh let us watch three movies tonight

Cause you know we’ll ignore you completely and won’t even fight

[Pre-Chorus]

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Cause we smell like we’ve been on safari

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah we know that we let you down

Is it too late to use soap now?

[Chorus]

We’re sorry

Sorry

Sorry

Yeah I know that we let you down

Is it too late to do last week’s homework now?

[Verse 2]

We know we’re supposed to pick up our clothes from the floor

And we know we’re not supposed to use your towel

We don’t know why we’re compelled to go to your door

6 a.m. is probably more family time than is called for

[Pre-Chorus]

Is it too late now to say sorry?

We don’t really want our teeth to fall from our body

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah we know that we should floss

But hygiene is a line we can’t cross

[Bridge]

We’re not just trying to say things you want to hear

Well maybe we are but we sound so cute and sincere

Is it too late now to say sorry?

Yeah we know that we let you down

But if we smile at you you won’t frown

[Verse 3]

Sabemos que el contador no es el mismo que la pisa

Y sabemos que en realidad no trabajas para nosotros

Seguramente alguien va a venir y limpiar todo

Si no vamos a trabajar en ello, tal vez, ya veremos

[Chorus]

We’re sorry

Sorry

Sorry

Yeah we know that we let you down

Is it too late to say Feliz Día de la Madre now?
